NaPoWriMo is here!

I consider this month as Ramadan/Ramazan of poetry. Where a poet fasts from all the excuses and their focus is on writing — the termed I coined last year, ‘Poetic-Fasting.’ This month is a training camp which determines how the rest of your writing year will be! Because if this month you choose to participate, I can guarantee you the coming months will surprise you.

“It’s often not the motivation that drives actions but the other way around.”— Harsh Snehanshu

I believe writing every day for the rest of the month will help you overcome your fear of not meeting the ‘standard’ you created for yourself. It will help you understand your relationship with your writing better. And even when NaPoWriMo ends you will still have YourQuote giving out challenges which will help you form the habit!

“You can’t wait for inspiration. You have to go after it with a club.” — Jack London

At YourQuote we do that precisely.

1. You have several options to choose from when it comes to prompts/challenges…

This is how I feel as a user.

Now, the first problem I encountered when I started writing was, what should I write about? And if I figured that, then how should I go about it? Because even though I had an idea, I didn’t really have the angle or structure regarding what I was going to write. So it becomes important to figure the later because the former is easy. Let’s say I wanted to write about Feminism, there are various angles here. But writing the same old, “I am a feminist,” approach is becoming overused and as being sarcastic suits me best, I could take an angle similar to Kait Rokowski, “How to cure a feminist?”

My angle would be, “5 consequences of using the ‘F’ word..”

But this takes time and can be exhausting so you like me dear poet can rely on YourQuote when it comes to providing you with a theme and angle. We post challenges every day. Not just in English but in regional Indian languages too! We have Airplane Poetry Movement on the app giving out challenges, as well. So, you get diversity. It’s a prompt buffet, fill your blank pages while you can! Not just that we will be running contests for the YourQuote Language Festival as well, so watch out, you might just get your chance to perform in the first-of-a-kind language festival!

2. Your voice is heard here…

What I love about YourQuote is that I know less about a person and more about what they can create. I am a better writer than a speaker and my profile on YourQuote highlights that. My identity as a poet is safe there. It’s my creative room. So apart from being recognized for your work, you also get space to just focus on creating. NaPoWriMo is an opportunity to find your audience that will stick to you. You get to build a community.

Apart from that, we will be featuring content created on the app, on our social media handles. On Medium, this month, we will curate content in form of listicles!

The vision of YourQuote is to democratize access to artists and this brings everybody on an equal level whether it be Maya Angelou or Mariyam Saigal. With the video and audio feature, you can participate in the App Open Mics when you are sitting in Kashmir and a fellow performer of yours is from Mumbai. At the end of every week this April, perform the best piece you wrote, and participate in YourQuote exclusive ‘App Open Mics’. This is your opportunity to make your art seen and voice heard.

So join us: http://bit.ly/YQAppInstall

Apart from that we have been and will continue to conduct Open Mics all around the globe and make sure your voice is heard through our YouTube channel which has 260K+ subscribers!

So this month could be your chance to get out of your comfort zone and explore a world full of opportunities.

Until next time!
