Here is the gyaan that will make you realize how your writing can get better.

How to improve your writing?
  1. “For the first time in forever…” — Frozen

Questions have been raised whether the song from Frozen is grammatically correct or not. Baba educates us about how to use ‘For’ and ‘Since’

For is used when you are communicating the ‘quantity’ of time.

Example: I have been working at YourQuote for six months.

Since is used to communicate a specific point in time.

Example: I have been working at YourQuote since 11th September 2017.

Also, now that you know, do you think the song title is grammatically correct?

Screen Junkies: “For the first in forever”. — Frozen

2. “Don’t tell me the moon is shining; show me the glint of light on broken glass.” — Anton Chekhov

Let your 6th sense use your five senses and SHOW us your story. Don’t just narrate it. Take the reader/audience to the world you created. Give life to your words by giving them a vision, sound, smell, taste and touch.

Show by taking a fancy verb or adjective and turning it into a scene.

Example

Sentence 1: My father was ecstatic to see me.
Sentence 2: My father came running towards me and lifted me in his arms.

This applies in life too, don’t tell people how extraordinary you are, show them!

Jill Marie Jones

3. “Well, l got plenty of time for that. Besides, maybe my future starts right now.” — The Postman Always Rings Twice (1946)

Beside means ‘next to’.
It is used as a preposition, which means it always has a noun following it.

Example: Don’t sit beside Nipun.

Besides means ‘in addition to’ or ‘apart from’. As an adverb, it means furthermore.

Example: Iram sat beside Nipun who besides being phony was also a hypocrite.

Deadpool

4. “Things we lose have a way of coming back to us in the end, if not always in the way we expect.” — J.K Rowling

Lose signifies loss.

Example: You need lose weight.

Loose means ‘not tight.’

Example: I need to gain weight because my favorite dress is too loose for me.

Honestly, writers need to get it together when using these terms because…

‘Don’t let me down.’ — The Chainsmokers

5. According to Vox, The Room is the worst movie made to date.

To date means ‘until now’.

Example: This the best grammar advice to date, till date is just colloquial and wrong.

The Perks Of Being A Wallflower

6. “Have you heard the news that you’re dead?… I think they never liked you anyway.” — My Chemical Romance

Anyway stands for ‘anyhow’.

You can’t say ‘anyhows’.

Example: Quoting the first book I loved as a child, “Nobody invited Miss Honey to sit down but she sat down anyway.” — Matilda

Frozen

7. “It’s supposed to be hard. If it wasn’t hard everyone would do it. It’s the hard that makes it great.” — Tom Hanks

It’s stands for it is. While, its stands for possession.

Example: A good startup is the one that knows its shit, not the one that knows it’s shit.

Well, that’s all the gyaan for now!

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King

Until next time!
